Hello Anesthesia Chiefs and Pediatric Anesthesia Practitioners:
My name is David Rosen and I am the incoming Chair of the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society (CPAS). On behalf of the CPAS Board, I would like to welcome you and thank you for your participation in our organization.
CPAS aims to represent the specialty of Pediatric Anesthesia at a national level, and through collaborations with other representative organizations, at an international level. We plan, support and implement educational opportunities at our stand-alone meetings and at the CAS meetings. We also participate in national tele-rounds and online discussion forums.
Our members lead Canadian efforts at education, research, administration, quality improvement and knowledge translation in all areas of pediatric anesthesia, pediatric perioperative medicine and pediatric pain medicine. We provide a national venue for ongoing learning, improvement of outcomes and innovation in the provision of care to infants, children, youth and their families.
Our on-line presence is expanding. We have a discussion forum on which practitioners talk about issues relating to clinical cases, administrative challenges, equipment issues, guidelines and other areas of interest to Pediatric Anesthesiologists and their colleagues. This can be accessed by members via our website. (pediatricanesthesia.ca)
Our website also allows members to purchase CPAS membership directly. It contains information about upcoming meetings and members can access educational material from our recent meetings on-line. There is information about fellowship opportunities nationally and the ability to liaise with other CPAS members. CPAS also provides a discounted rate to the journal Pediatric Anesthesia and members have access to its app.
Our popular Twitter account (@PedAnesthesia) is widely used to disseminate the latest articles of interest to Pediatric Anesthesiologists and promote real time discussion internationally.
Your 2016-2018 CPAS Board consists of the following people:
Papu Nath (Sainte-Justine)___Member at Large
Katherine Taylor (Sick Kids)__Secretary
Desi Reddy (McMaster)_____Chair of the Scientific Committee
Clyde Matava (Sick Kids)____Communications Officer
Jeremy Luntley (Calgary)____Vice Chair
David Rosen (CHEO)_______Chair
Simon Whyte (BCCH)_____Past Chair
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Divinia Withington, Natalie Buu and Sarah Stevens for their tireless contributions to the CPAS Board over the years and Robin Cox for the wonderful work in organizing the CPAS Banff 2016 meeting.
I encourage you to promote CPAS as an organization that all Pediatric Anesthesia enthusiasts in Canada would derive benefit from being a member (at a very low cost!).
Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with questions, suggestions or ideas about how to improve our organization and our specialty.
Thank you for your attention.
