In October 2020, CPAS represented members’ interests in responding to a scientific publication in JAMA pediatrics. The paper suggested labour epidural analgesia in vaginal delivery was associated with a 37% relative increase risk of the child developing autism spectrum disorder. This statement generated a great deal of controversy amongst specialist obstetric and pediatric anesthesia societies in Canada, the US, and the UK.
